Salisbury University
Salisbury University has had a wonderful fall
so far, with Sea Gull Century having been a huge success. The 19th annual
Sea Gull Century happened on Saturday, October 6th, drawing thousands of
cyclists from all over the country and beyond to Salisbury. This is the
largest single-day event in Wicomico County, with an estimated economic
impact of $2.5 million, according to SU's Perdue School of Business.
Proceeds from the ride support many organizations and programs both on
campus and in the community. Donations to the local chapter of Habitat for
Humanity have exceeded $100,000 as a result of Century contributions. In
the past, proceeds even helped establish a scholarship fund for SU
students.
The event didn't just happen here -- a soldier stationed in Iraq also
participated -- calling it "Sea Gull Century East." U.S. Air Force Lt.
Col. Mike "Starbaby" Pietrucha completed the ride, not on his lightweight
Cannondale, but on "a steel-frame German-designed monstrosity that vaguely
resembles a mid-1980s mountain bike." He proudly received a coveted 2007
t- shirt for his efforts, and in gratitude, sent SU an American flag flown
from his jet, a UH-60A Blackhawk Tactical Airlift, on September 10-11.
Governor O'Malley paid a visit to the campus October 10th to discuss tax
and budget reform, his fourth visit to the Lower Shore since being elected
last November.
November events will include a seminar on J.D. Salinger, the American
Spiritual Ensemble concert, and a lecture by Dr. Arun Gandhi on
"Nonviolence in the Age of Terrorism." To browse through all upcoming

winter months at Salisbury University as well, and look for the 22nd
National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR®), an event dedicated
to promoting undergraduate research, scholarships and creative activities

Texas Hold 'Em Qualifying Super Satellite
Set your sites on the November 17, 2007 Qualifying Super Satellite for the
2nd Annual Eastern Shore Regional Poker Classic to be held on Friday and
Saturday, February 8 -9, 2008 at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center in
Salisbury, Maryland.
The November 17th Super Satellite, sponsored again by the Wicomico
Tourism, will be an $80 Buy-in if pre-registered before November 2nd, $100
between 11/3 - 11/16, and $125 at the door. 1 in 10 will the $540 Buy-in
for 2008 ESRPC on February 8-9, 2008.

2007 Holiday Classic
Basketball Tournament
Last year, twenty-five legitimate college prospects participated in the
Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament...be sure you don't miss the next
basketball star as they take the floor at the Wicomico Civic Center
December 26th through 29th. Attendees will see six competitive basketball
games per day featuring teams from Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New
York and beyond.

2007 Autumn Wine Festival
The 5th Annual Wicomico County Autumn Wine Festival, held October 20th and
21st at Pemberton Historical Park in Salisbury, was the most successful to
date! Thanks to all who attended to enjoy the fifteen Maryland wineries,
