Locally Owned Restaurants Join Together

The Locally Owned Restaurant Association, or LORA, was formed in 2005 by a group of Wicomico County's forward-thinking restaurant owners.  With a mission to approach common goals and interests as a united group, the non-profit 501 c-6 organization is currently twelve members strong.

Adam's Ribs, Break Time Sports Grill and Pub, Cactus Taverna, Chef Fred's Chesapeake Steakhouse, Flannery's Catering, Lombardi's, Market Street Inn, Old West Steakhouse, Restaurant 213, Vinny's La Roma, Watermen's Cove and Zia's Italian Grill are on board and are hopeful that others will soon join them.

Together these restaurants are working to emphasize the importance of local support and to enhance the community through charitable and noteworthy donations. LORA has recently backed events such as the Lion's Club Holiday Basketball Classic, the Teddy Bear Brunch and National Family Day. In addition, gift certificates have been donated to local organizations including the Joseph House, The Leukemia-Lymphoma Hospitality Golf Classic, the Wicomico County Rotary Golf Tournament and Relay for Life.

In order to keep costs down for local patrons and provide an affordable dining experience, all members of LORA have negotiated and take advantage of group discounts and contracts with existing vendors and service providers.

For more information on LORA or to become a member, please call Alex Bubas at 410-543-9118.

Tourism Tastes Success with the 4th Annual Wine Festival

The 4th Annual Autumn Wine Festival held October 21-22, 2006, was marked by beautiful fall foliage, comfortable autumn weather, and record numbers of wineries, vendors and crowds!

The entire Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism is excited that the community embraced the fourth Annual Autumn Wine Festival and made it one of the shore's fastest growing traditions.

Since its debut in 2003, the festival sanctioned by the Maryland Association of Wineries has grown in its number of wineries, vendors and attendance. In addition, the festival has come to attract some of the area's finest entertainment acts.

With Mother Nature's cooperation and the support of local media outlets including The Daily Times, WMDT and Clear Channel Radio, this year's festival held at Pemberton Historical Park October 21-22 was the most successful to date. A record setting number of people came from across Delmarva and beyond to sample wine, enjoy live jazz entertainment and peruse the booths of dozens of vendors.

A special thanks is extended to the more than 130 volunteers that made the event run smoothly from beginning to end.

The festival would also not have been possible with out sponsor contributions from local businesses including Bank of Delmarva, Clear Channel Radio, Clear Channel Outdoor, WMDT, The Daily Times, The Centre at Salisbury and Bennett Construction.

Plans are already underway for the fifth annual festival slated for October 20-21, 2007. According to the President of the Maryland Association of Wineries, Kevin Atticks, next year's event could boast as many as 20 wineries - up from 12 this year.

We hope that everyone enjoyed their time spent at the festival and will make plans to attend again next year. Please stay tuned for further information by visiting our website www.AutumnWineFestival.org.

Cheers!
