We’ll Make A Wine Lover Out of You!

"Why attend a Wine Festival if I don't like wine?" That was a common question when we first started our Wine Festival four years ago. Believe it or not, though, we now see the same people who asked that very question at the festival year after year sipping...you guessed it...wine!

That's what our wine festival is all about - promoting Maryland wines and finding the wine lover in everyone! So many people have come back to tell us they’re glad they attended the wine festival despite their doubts – with so many great wines to choose from, they were able to find something they can now enjoy with dinner and friends.

What’s more, many festival attendees get a jump start on holiday shopping at the Wine Festival. Whether it’s a bottle of wine or arts and crafts from one of our many unique vendors, there’s a present for everyone (including yourself) within the event grounds.

Whether you’re already a wine lover or you’re not sure, be sure to take a few hours to check out what the wine festival has to offer. Feel free to bring a blanket, buy food and wine, listen to the live entertainment and make a relaxing day of it!

See the full schedule of events, entertainment line up, and what wineries and vendors are coming to this year’s Wine Festival at our brand new event website: www.autumnwinefestival.org.

Sports Marketing Update

We’ve just completed our first year with a full time focus on Sports Marketing, and we’re seeing immediate results! Wicomico County sporting events generated an estimated economic impact of $6.3 million in 2005-2006, and there’s no sign of slowing down.

Over the summer, more than 500 teams participated in sporting events held in Wicomico County. We hosted the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) 13 and Under Major World Series – quite an honor, as it was the first Major World Series that the organization has ever placed in a northern city! We also hosted the largest Dual High School Wrestling Championship ever held by the National High School Coaches Association.

As we look to the future, there is no slowing down!  We will welcome back Elite Championship Tournament Baseball on November 4th & 5th for their annual “Turn Back the Clock Tournament”.  The Crown Sports Center will officially kick off its tournament schedule this fall with the “Crown Kick Off Soccer Tournament” on November 11th & 12th.

Of course we’re also looking forward to the second year of Tourism’s partnership with the Salisbury Lions Club and Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament. The event has now grown to include 24 of the best high school basketball teams on the east coast, including 12 teams from right here on Delmarva!  Much more on this event to come…stay tuned!!!
