President's Message

Hello everyone,

Congratulations to our tourism department on a job well done with the Eastern Shore Regional Poker Classic which was held February 16 & 17 at the Wicomico Civic Center. Cards were in the air at 4:08pm on Friday with over 400 players competing for a portion of the winnings.

The event expects to donate between $10,000 and $15,000 the “Tomorrow Fund” of the Friends of the Wicomico County Parks and Recreation Department. This fund provides scholarships enabling young people the opportunity to participate in recreational programs. Great job everyone.

Spring is coming soon and so is the Fourth Annual Pork in the Park Bar-b-que Festival. The festival will be held at Winterplace Park in Salisbury Maryland on April 20-22. This festival is one of Wicomico County’s premier events and is quickly becoming a Delmarva tradition. We encourage all of you to volunteer and or attend this event. It is your event. For more information on how to get involved please call 410-548-4914.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Mary M. Seemann
CVA President

lSports Marketing Update

Spring is in the air and that means that outdoor sporting events are just around the corner. This year, Wicomico County will welcome more than 650 teams taking part in more than 30 different events! Excitement is buzzing regarding the recent addition of the USSSA Girls Fast Pitch 16 and Under "B" Eastern National to the Henry S. Athletic Complex schedule. The event which will be held from July 23-30 will bring more than 100 teams to Wicomico County from as far away as Wisconsin, Alabama and Tennessee.

The outdoor sports season officially kicks off on March 9th with the Annual Sea Gull Invitational. This event brings in some of the country's best college Division III Women's Softball Teams to compete at the Athletic Complex. In April we will welcome girls fast pitch teams competing in the Pony Qualifier April 14th and 15th.

The Tourism Department thanks you in advance for making our visiting athletes feel welcome at your place of business. Remember, each of these athletes and their families infuse more than $300 into our economy for each night they spend in our county. Let's be sure to give them a reason to keep coming. If you are interested in reaching out to any of these out-of-town guests, please contact Andy Wisk at 410-548-4914 for upcoming advertising and sponsorship opportunities.

A complete Athletic Complex schedule can be found online at www.WicomicoRecAndParks.org.

Look for an all inclusive Salisbury Tournaments website to be launched in the next couple of months which provide one-click access to all tournaments and multi-day sporting events taking place at any facility located in Wicomico County. The site will be found at www.SalisburyChampionships.org.
