June is National Great Outdoors Month. Get outside in Wicomico County and have fun with some of these activities -- which can all be enjoyed while keeping a social distance from others.

1. Make Some S’Mores

Get the family together and reserve a campsite at three different locations across Wicomico County. If you’re coming from the north, Woodlawn Family Campground offers tent and trailer sites under beautiful trees near Route 13. Looking to be on the water instead? Check out Sandy Hill Family Camp and Roaring Point Waterfront Campground.

2. Connect with Nature

With more than 1,500 acres of parks and trails, Wicomico County has plenty of opportunities to run, hike and bike. Pemberton Historical Park features 4.5 miles of nature trails perfect for walking or running. Take a walk around the Salisbury City Park or hop on your bike and hit the four miles of mountain bike trails the park has to offer. Don’t forget to bring your camera along and share your photos and videos with the hashtag #funwicomico.

3. Paddle Around

Whether you like to paddle board, kayak, canoe or boat, there are plenty of opportunities to do it all. Wicomico County offers 16 different water access points and provides a unique opportunity to explore the area via waterways.

4. Bring “Fido” Along

Wicomico County is extremely dog friendly. All 50 county parks allow you to bring your furry best friend (on a leash). There are also a variety of local restaurants that allow dogs in the outdoor seating areas, including Market Street Inn, where dog-friendly treats and water are provided.

5. Break Out Your Binoculars

Over 295 reported bird species call the wetlands and rural areas of Wicomico County home. Some popular birding sites include Ellis Bay Wildlife Management Area, Nanticoke River Wildlife Management Area – Nutter’s Neck and Pemberton Historical Park.

6. Toss A Disc

The scenic Schumaker Park features an 18-hole disc golf course. Suitable for anyone from recreational players to pro level, the course is situated next to Schumaker Pond and weaves amid a moderately wooded terrain.

7. Relax by the Water

If sitting in the sand and wading in the water is your style, check out Roaring Point Park. There, secluded by dense trees, you’ll find almost a mile of beach with a picturesque view of the lower Nanticoke River.

8. Seek Out the Next Big Catch

There are many opportunities to go fishing, hunting, trapping and crabbing in Wicomico County. Our location in the middle of the Atlantic Flyway makes Wicomico County a premier location for wildfowl hunting. We’re also home to 18,000 acres of Chesapeake Forest Lands to satisfy all your hunting and trapping needs. Visit one of our water access points to fish and go crabbing.

9. Pick Your Own Fruit

If you’re looking for a fun family experience, visit one of our local farms or farmers markets. Depending on the season, you’ll find local produce, including fruit, vegetables, flowers and more. Some farms offer pick-your-own opportunities during harvest seasons. (We recommend calling in advance if you would like to pick your own fruit.)
