Chesapeake Country All-American Road

Designated as an All-American Road by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration in 2021, the Chesapeake Country All-American Road (CCAAR) is recognized for its internationally significant cultural and recreational experiences.

A destination unto itself, the CCAAR takes travelers through the extraordinary landscapes and waterscapes of the Eastern Shore. Commencing as you depart the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, the CCAAR offers an epic journey where the lifestyles and livelihoods of generations of watermen, shipbuilders and farmers have shaped an unspoiled landscape, making it easy for travelers to imagine earlier times.

Wicomico County's Pemberton Historical Park is included on the CCAAR. To explore the Chesapeake Country All-American Road in its entirety, visit Maryland's website.

The Byway was nominated for All-American Road status by the Chesapeake Country Scenic Byway Alliance, of which Wicomico County is a part. Created in 1991, the program is a collaborative effort to help recognize, preserve and enhance selected roads throughout the United States. The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) recognizes certain roads based on one or more archeological, cultural, historic, natural, recreational and scenic qualities. For federal designation, a National Scenic Byway is required to have at least one intrinsic quality that is nationally or regionally significant. An All-American Road is required to have at least two significant intrinsic qualities.
