Five free things to do in Wicomico County

Vanessa Junkin - Monday, March 01, 2021

Wicomico County is home to a wide variety of attractions spanning from animals to the arts, but many of them have at least one thing in common: They're free to visit. Check out these no-cost activities.

Explore a Park

Wicomico County has more than 50 parks and outdoor facilities, none of which have an admission fee. Enjoy trails, water access, and playgrounds. Visit WicomicoRecandParks.org to find a park that has what you're looking for.

Visit the Salisbury Zoo

Birds and bison and bears, oh my! The Salisbury Zoo is home to more than 100 animals, and visitors can see them for free. Learn about different species while traversing the Zoo's beautiful grounds.

Take a Walking Tour

See unique architecture as you take a walking tour of Downtown Salisbury or the nearby Newtown Historic District, which is home to Poplar Hill Mansion. For an art-filled walk, visit SalisburyArtsDistrict.com and print out the Public Art Walking Tour brochure.

Admire Artwork

Admission is free at the Salisbury University Art Galleries, which includes galleries on the university campus and in Downtown Salisbury, and the Salisbury Art Space, also located downtown.

Discover History

Poplar Hill Mansion, the city of Salisbury's oldest residence, offers free tours on Sundays from 1-4 p.m. You can also take a walk through nearby Parsons Cemetery. Some historic sites, such as those in Mardela Springs and Whitehaven, are open at no cost -- just call to make an appointment.
