Earth Day is Wednesday, April 22, and it's a holiday you can celebrate from your home — or nearby outdoor spaces that are open to the public and not crowded. Celebrate the outdoors and our planet with these ideas.
1. Pick up trash as part of Wicomico County Recreation & Parks and Joceanic's Independent Earth Day Clean-Up event. Grab some gloves and a trash bag and clean up your neighborhood on Wednesday. Every bit helps! Check out all the details and safety tips here, and RSVP to the Facebook event here. Then, share photos from your experience with hashtag #WicomicoEarthDay. Even if you're not in Wicomico County, you can still help clean up your own hometown.
2. Join the City of Salisbury, the Salisbury Zoo and Green SBY for Virtual Earth Day. Check out the details in this Facebook event.
3. Share green messages in chalk. Whether you're literally writing in green or not, spend some time outside and beautify your sidewalks with some art. You can even make it Earth Day-related with messages like "We love our Earth." Read more about the #ChalkWicomico campaign in a blog post from last week.
4. Plant something. If you already have seeds at home or can pick them up on your next trip for essential items, Earth Day would be a great day to plant a flower or vegetable in your yard. If you don't have any seeds, you can always save this idea for later.
