The Wicomico County Fair is coming up next weekend, Friday-Sunday, Aug. 20-22, at WinterPlace Park in Salisbury, and there is such a wide variety of events on the schedule. Here are five things not to miss during the weekend-long, free and family-friendly event put on by the Wicomico Farm & Home Show and Wicomico County.

Wing War: Hot Wing Eating Competition

See if you can take the heat as a competitor in the Wing War: Hot Wing Eating Competition, which is at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21. There are three rounds of the competition, with the level of heat increasing each time. Make it to the final round and finish three wings the fastest to win a trophy, a Buffalo Wild Wings gift card, a monster milkshake from Nice Farms Creamery and bragging rights. The fee to take part is $15, and preregistration is required.  Sign up here. Can't take the heat? You can still watch the competition on the Main Stage.

Watermelon and Pie Competitions

Maybe watermelon or pie are more your style. Three competitions will take place on the Main Stage during the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 21. Eat watermelon as fast as you can during the Watermelon Speed Eating Contest at noon, see how far you can spit a watermelon seed during the Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest at 1 p.m., and try to be the fastest pie eater during the Pie Speed Eating Contest at 2 p.m. It's free to participate, but space is limited. Registration begins at 11 a.m. that day, and there are categories for ages 8-13 and ages 14 and older. Learn more here.

It wouldn't be the Fair if you didn't take a chance to see some animals. Visit the Look Pretty Play Dirty Petting Farm, see livestock shows and even take a ride on a unicorn.

Celebrate the return of the Fair after the 2020 COVID-related hiatus by watching a fireworks show Friday, Aug. 20, at 9 p.m. The show is sponsored by Perdue.
