Historic Parson's Cemetery Introduces Updated Walking Tours

Nicole Wheatley - March 14, 2023

In the words of architectural historian Keith Eggener, urban cemeteries are "where life meets death, nature meets city and present meets past." Parsons Cemetery foots the bill. Both operational and historic, there's a lot to see and learn here, especially for the history buff.

Owned and operated by St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Salisbury, Parsons offers recently-updated unique walking tours, each focused on different aspects of the property.

  • Historic Walking Tour, Part One (1873-1914) – This tour provides an overview of Parsons Cemetery’s early history, focusing on the notable persons interred within. (1/2 mile; approximately 1 hour)
  • Historic Walking Tour, Part Two (1914-2022) – This tour provides an overview of Parsons Cemetery’s more recent history, focusing primarily on the western half of the property and the notable persons interred within. (1/2 mile; approximately 1 hour) It is recommended that you complete Historic Tour Part One before Historic Tour Part Two.

Check back frequently, as Parsons plans to launch additional walking tours over the course of spring and summer 2023.

  • 19th Century Veterans Walking Tour: War of 1812 - WWI – Coming Spring 2023
  • 20th Century Veterans Walking Tour: WWI - Present – Coming Spring 2023
