Here are a few ideas for celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day this year

Vanessa Junkin - Thursday, January 14, 2021

We are only a few days away from Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and local organizations are offering virtual events to honor King. You can also honor his memory by participating in a service activity in your community.

Tri-County MLK Coalition Inc.'s Birthday Celebration & Commemoration Event

Celebrate King at the Tri-County MLK Coalition Inc.'s annual Birthday Celebration & Commemoration Event, which will be held virtually this year. Hear from keynote speaker Dr. Brante Dashiell, the new Wicomico County NAACP president, during the event, which starts on Facebook Live, Zoom and YouTube at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18.

Tune into the Ward Museum's Facebook or YouTube on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. Artist Tina Johnson will teach attendees how to paint a monochromatic portrait of King. Locals can pick up materials for the painting at the Ward Museum this month.

National Day of Service

If you have the day off work, you can take some time to make a difference in your community on this National Day of Service. One option that anyone can do, no matter where you live, is picking up trash for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I participated with a friend's trash pickup effort in the past, and it felt good to use the day off for something meaningful.
