Cover Wicomico County in chalk

Vanessa Junkin - Thursday, April 16, 2020

During these uncertain and unhappy times, we can all help make people’s days a little brighter. Wicomico County Recreation, Parks, Tourism & Civic Center is challenging our community to see how many Wicomico County sidewalk squares and driveways we can cover in chalk. Neighbors can enjoy the art when they go out on a walk, and it’s fun to release your creative side and enjoy the fresh air.

Grab some chalk, create some art and share your creations with us with the hashtag #ChalkWicomico. We'll share some of them on our social media pages!

Here are a few ideas:

Inspirational or supportive messages

Let our frontline employees know you support them with upbeat messages.

Fun, interactive paths

We got this idea from our friends in St. Petersburg, Florida. See what kind of interactive path you can create for your neighbors passing by.

Stained-glass style art using tape

This is a creative way to color your sidewalk and you can use tape you already have around the house. Read this post for more details.

Happy, positive drawings

Brighten your sidewalk — and your neighbors' moods — with positive drawings.

Don’t leave your home to make chalk art or travel to see others’ art in person, and be sure to stay at least six feet away from other people you do not live with.

Don't live in Wicomico County? Our neighbors in Somerset County are doing a chalk campaign, too!

Have fun! We are excited to see your chalk art!
