Get these fun in-person and virtual holiday events on your calendar

Vanessa Junkin - Monday, November 30, 2020

This holiday season is certainly different, but there are still fun activities happening in Wicomico County, both in-person and virtual. We've found some events to add to the calendar that will get you in the holiday spirit. Because of the changing situation surrounding COVID-19, we would recommend confirming health and safety protocols or any updates before attending an event.

In-Person

Cookies with Santa: The Salisbury Zoo hosts Cookies with Santa on both Saturday, Dec. 5, and Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Zoo. Attendees will reserve one of the four time slots for each date — 11 a.m.-noon, 12:30-1:30 p.m., 2-3 p.m. or 3:30-4:30 p.m. — by calling 443-944-0636 (space is limited). Pick up craft materials, cookies and a drink, and see Santa. The event fee is $15 per child with one adult, or $10 per child with one adult for Zoo members. View the Facebook event here.

Second Annual Kwanzaa Celebration: Join the Salisbury Kwanzaa Club for a Kinara lighting and celebration in Downtown Salisbury on Saturday, Dec. 26, starting at 5:30 p.m. View the Facebook event here.

Holiday Displays: Walk through the Salisbury City Park one evening to enjoy the light displays, or head to Downtown Salisbury to see the Christmas tree, Hanukkah menorah and Kwanzaa kinara, located at the food truck pad on South Division Street, near the parking garage. You can also drive around and enjoy residents' holiday lights and decorations.

Virtual

Winter Wonderland: Illuminating Traditions: Celebrate and learn about different holidays through videos and crafts as part of the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art's Winter Wonderland: Illuminating Traditions virtual event. A different celebration is highlighted each Tuesday for seven weeks. Diwali and Advent have already been featured in the series (watch those videos here, and the Drop in Art Jr. videos here). The rest of the calendar includes Hanukkah (Dec. 1), Light Displays (Dec. 8), Yule (Dec. 15), Kwanzaa (Dec. 22) and Tres Reyes (Dec. 29). The Ward Museum is temporarily closed through Tuesday, Dec. 8, but information about the event and craft material lists can be found here

Holiday Reinventions Chamber Concert: Enjoy a Salisbury Symphony Orchestra performance from the comfort of your own home on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free, but registration is required here

Online Holiday Bazaar: Find unique artwork available for purchase at Salisbury Art Space's Online Holiday Bazaar, open through Jan. 9, 2021. Member artists are invited to submit their work to be displayed. View the online bazaar here.
